Essentially a heavy-duty pot with an airtight lid, a pressure cooker only needs a small amount of liquid to cook with, and is great for soups, stews or rice. Because steam cannot escape, the internal temperature rises, speeding cooking times, saving fuel and preserving water-soluble vitamins and minerals. On longer trips, reduced fuel consumption (as much as 60%) will offset the weight of the cooker.
