Product Description Highly detailed 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, a twin-engine air superiority fighter aircraft of the United States Air Force and its allies. The F-15 was originally developed to counter the top-secret Soviet MiG-25, which was then thought by NATO as a highly advanced air superiority fighter. However, NATO intelligence about the MiG-25 turned out to be incorrect, as the MiG-25 was designed by the Soviet Union as a high-speed interceptor to counter advanced American high speed bombers which were then in development. Nevertheless, the mistake in identity motivated the United States to develop the F-15, which became one of the best air superiority fighters of all time. The combination of two Pratt & Whitney F100 turbofan engines with a sleek and aerodynamic airframe gives the F-15 outstanding thrust-to-weight ratio, making it highly maneuverable despite its large size. The large wing surface of the F-15 makes it an ideal platform for a variety of air-to-air as well as air-to-ground weapons, and F-15s are fitted with advanced multi-mission avionics, radar, and guidance systems. "As of 2008, the F-15 in all air forces has an air-to-air combined kill record of 104 kills to 0 losses in air combat," and over half of which were made by IAF (Israeli Air Force) pilots.
